It is an iron Tea pot made by Nambu Tekki (*1)with a tortoise shell pattern(*2).

An iron teapot made by Nambu　ironware(Nanbu tekkie)[南部鉄器] with excellent heat retention and excellent design. It is a popular item not only in Japan but also overseas because it is especially easy to use among ironware.

(*1)Nanbu ironware(Nanbu tekki)[南部鉄器] is a traditional craft made in Iwate Prefecture. It was born out of the tea ceremony that was popular among feudal lords during the Edo period. Nanbu ironware is made using pig iron as the main raw material. Its charm lies in its simplicity, robustness, and simple, deep flavor.

(*2)The basis of the tortoiseshell pattern[亀甲模様] is a regular hexagon.  The name comes from the shape of a turtle's shell, which is a symbol of longevity.The tortoiseshell pattern , which imitates the shell of a turtle, is said to have the meaning of longevity, health, and even protection from evil spirits as it protects itself. It became established as a well-known pattern during the Heian period, and was later used on a wide range of items from clothing to tableware.

Features :
The iron teapot comes with a stainless steel tea strainer when you remove the lid. The inside of the teapot body is coated with enamel called "enamel." It's a little shiny and smooth. Although iron kettles and teapots have similar shapes, please note that teapots have an enamel finish on the inside, so they will not be effective in replenishing iron content.

Handle with care :
An iron teapot is a tool used to brew tea by placing tea leaves in a tea strainer and pouring hot water into it. Since it is enameled, it should not be heated. If you empty the fire, the enamel may crack. The inside of the teapot can be washed with a sponge. Wash the outside lightly with hot water and wipe it thoroughly.
